Day 60: More Clouds

Springtime in the Rockies usually means afternoon clouds and highly unpredictable weather. Even Boo knows it. After looking at these clouds he proclaimed, "Mama, that means there's going to be a storm!"

He was wrong, it was just a bit windy, but at least he'll never be caught outside during a twister!

Day 53: It Goes Like This...

Despite what you may think, ^this^ is not a commentary on Boo, even though he was a beast this week! (He seems to have inherited his father's sunny disposition while sick.)

Long story short: We bought a sweet label maker. Boo typed his name and put the sticker on his new art-supply "desk". The label maker got placed on top of the fridge for "safe keeping". The label maker fell off the fridge and exploded. Babe, after cussing under his breath, put it back together and typed the *other* word you see here.

A couple days later, Boo finds the naughty sticker and asks Babe if he can put it on his desk too. Babe tells him to ask me first, but, stubborn-minded boy he is, put it on there anyway, before he asked me.

The placement? All. His.

Day 39: Wrestlemania

Boo has really started to be a "big brother" to Bay. No, he's not monitoring her every move, telling her what to do, and telling her it's for her own good. Wait...maybe he *is* Big Brother!

He's realizing that she's not a blob, and that she's growing into a cool little chick, so he loves to help her out (and boss her around.) We were trying to head up to school to watch Babe coach his basketball team, but Bay wouldn't let me put on the sock and shoe she tore off while she was eating.

Boo looked at me, real serious-like and held out his hand, "Mom, let me try." Sure enough, she sat down and let him put her sock on.

Now, I'm using "put her sock on" in the loosest term possible. He put it on upside down, it only covered her toes, and then, he started to wrestle her.

Eh, it's progress.

Day 37: Ham and Cheese

Boo is a total ham...we joke that it's a good think that his Uncle Rex is a theater teacher-extraordinaire, because there's a good chance the kid has a future in acting. He mugs, pulls faces, dances, jokes...you name it.

I made the mistake of showing him how the computer is a camera, and now, I can't get him to stop taking pictures! (And forget about getting a decent smile...which is very much like his mother, if I think about it.)

Day 31: Penguins!

Here's how it happened...

Boo had a fever.
The sitter, Auntie Piper, got in a car crash. She's fine. Her car...was not.
I called a sub.
The fever went away!

So, we found our way at the zoo. It was a gorgeous day, the kids were awesome, and we had the place to ourselves for the first 90 minutes we were there. I finally got batteries for the little digital camera Boo got for Christmas and he was our photographer. The pics aren't half bad, and he told me that this pic was his favorite. We actually got to see feeding time right after this.

Day 27: Old MacDonald Had a Farm!

Boo so desperately wants to play with Bay and vice versa. Unfortunately Bay is just young enough to not really get the whole "playing" thing and Boo is just selfish enough to not want to share any of his toys.

However, today, the heavens opened and sang...They played "farm" together. They were interacting and laughing together. No fighting. No crying. No, "Moooooooooooooooooooom, Delaney took my toy!"

It was glorious.

Day 24: Look Ma! I Can Spell!

Boo is a pretty smart kid. Babe taught him his letters when he was about 19 months old, and he loooooves to read. We've been working on letter sounds and recognizing his name lately, so when he gets to Kindergarten, he's not the only kid that has NO clue what his name is.

Oh, and no, Babe and I aren't going to be the psycho parents that try and force their kids to read when they're 3 and play full concertos on the piano when they're 5. I mean, we're both teachers so we *know* that early literacy, while important, isn't the end-all, be-all.

I am, however, pretty damn proud of Boo. He spelled his name all by himself (with just a little bit of help from mom.) :0)

ETA: I'm aware that this post is out of order. As soon as I can figure out how to scramble posts, it'll be fixed...or it'll stay here in its jumbled glory.

Day 20: "I wanna Mohawk, but mom won't get me one..."

I have a stinky kid.

Seriously.

He's developed a serious aversion to taking a bath or shower, so I have to bribe him. Lately, "funky hair-dos" seems to do the trick. This evening's was the punk classic; the Mohawk.

Okay, it's more of the "faux-hawk", as popularized by Mr. David Beckham, but still, my Boo...he's edgy.

Day 12: Pinball Wizard

Boo adores the computer. He learned how to use the track-pad on my iMac faster than I did. He is truly a child of the 21st century...which lead to an unhealthy obsession with the Super Mario Wii. (You know Gollum? Yeah, instead of, "Myyyyyy precccccccioussssss," it was "I wannnnnnnna play Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiii." So, the Wii went bye-bye.

I still let him on the computer though, if he's had a good day, and his sister is in bed. He gets so serious when he's trying to figure it out...here, he's looking at the pattern in the Backyardigan's "Mission to Mars" game. Patterns are hard for him, so he has to realllly concentrate.

Day 6: Wheeeeeeeee!!

Boo and I went to the rec center today to just get out of the house. It's been a relatively mild winter, but he's been obsessed with the Wii--which "Santa" took back to the "North Pole" because of Boo's Gollum-like tendencies with the stupid Mario game... Needless to say, he's not been super-interested it doing things, like...swimming or um, going to the park when it's nice enough to venture outside.

Today's visit was supposed to be a family affair, but Bay decided at noon to have a total and complete melt-down. Okay, nap is it. Babe stayed with her so I could take the boy to the pool, he was actually doing the, "Is it time to go yet? Now? Now? How about now?" thing, so I figured canceling was out of the picture.

He had a blast and we had some awesome mommy and Boo bonding time. He loved the little frog slide they had at the pool. He was being quite the daredevil--spinning around, going down sideways...I think he was trying to impress the cute lifeguard that was stationed there at the time. (He kept telling her, "Watch this, it's gonna be really cool!") I don't know how he got so much air between his bum and the slide, but he flew! The shot's completely blurry, but, he was going pretty fast...

Day 2: Fun with the Fam

I can already tell I'm going to get bored with my titles. Maybe I'll go multi-lingual...as in "tag zwei" or some such nonsense. Ooh, I know! I'll go all Wallace Stephens on this, "3 Ways of Looking at Day 3".

This isn't the greatest shot. The composition is shoddy, the lighting is off, but in order to get both kids, at the same time, I had to work fast. Thank you Canon auto setting!

We got home from school today and Boo decides that he wants to pull all the covers off his "bed" (which is currently the floor) and bring them to the play area. Then, he wants to play "sleepyheads" which is a game where we all got under some blanket and decided to sleep. A nap at 4 p.m. after a day at school? Don't mind if I do!!
